The Sustainable Energy And Transportation Summit, (SEAT), Africa’s biggest and premier sustainable energy conference is set to hold in Accra, Ghana.
SEAT is the peak gathering of leaders driving Africa’s sustainable energy and transport transformation.
The developing nations of Africa are popular locations for the application of renewable energy technology hence finding a sustainable way to meet growing energy needs is one of the core development challenges for the continent.
According to a report by the International Energy Agency, Renewable energy will make up almost half of sub-Saharan Africa’s power generation growth by 2040.
The report, which is the IEA’s first major analysis of sub-Saharan Africa, looked at the region’s potential to supply energy to the approximately 620 million people who still lack access to electricity.
Sub-Saharan Africa’s economy has been growing rapidly since 2000, the report notes, but the fact that two-thirds of the region’s population lacks access to electricity is stymieing that growth.
Gad Ashiagbor, Lead, AfricaEV, organizers of the SEAT Summit says the conference is set to change the narrative of renewable energy and Electric Vehicles Technology in Africa.
In his words, “The aim of the exhibition is to educate the public/market on these products via exhibitions, demonstrations and testrides/drives whilst simultaneously giving manufacturers the opportunity to take the pulse of the African market.
“Products such as: electric vehicles, electric bikes, charging infrastructure solutions, battery systems, micro & mini-grid installations, solar products, wind and geothermal solutions.
“The electrification and digitalization of transport is leading to sustainability and disrupting the transportation ecosystem in the process.
“We therefore invite stakeholders to join us for the maiden edition from the 16th to 18th January 2020 as we explore sustainable solutions to Africa’s transport and energy problems. The SEAT Summit comprises two distinct but intertwined concurrent events.
“A 2 day conference(16th to 17th January 2020) at the Accra International Conference Centre of African policy makers, regulators, investors, development agencies, industries, entrepreneurs and press.
“A 3 day exhibition (16th to 18th January 2020) at the Ghana International Trade Fair Centre, of currently available products in the sustainable transport and energy space.
“The conference will focus on the speed and scale of disruption of sustainable energy and transport solutions and their implications for African societies.
“From the perspectives of: impacted industries, job loss/creation, urban planning, energy security, policy-making, financing, infrastructure and even politics.
