In recognition of the importance of the oil and gas industry and the recently announced Presidential Decree; AECIPA (Association of Contracting Companies of the Angolan Oil Industry) representing the oil and gas services sector is launching Angola Energy Month during December, featuring a series of webinars culminating in the three day virtual Angola Oil and Gas Services and Technology Conference (15-17 December 2020).
The Presidential Decree 271/20, approves a new legal regime for local content in Angola’s oil and gas sector, strongly encouraging the acquisition of national goods and services and the replacement of expatriates by Angolan workers. H.E. President João Lourenço stated that the decree will aid in wealth creation and the promotion of economic diversification in Angola as well as promote participation in the oil sector from commercial companies owned by Angolan citizens.
It emphasises the strengthening of national entrepreneurship, highlighting that foreign technical assistance or management contracts must contain detailed training programs, knowledge transfer, technology, development and improvement of professional skills for the national labour force; and also promotes the use of national raw materials in an aim to reduce imports and increase domestic production.
In line with this announcement and in recognition of Angola’s celebration of 45 years’ of independence and oil and gas success; Angola Energy Month will feature two free to attend webinars for audiences across Angola and the international community and the Angola Oil and Gas Service and Technology Virtual Conference (AOTC) later in the month.
Over 500 senior oil and gas executives are expected to participate in the events which will cover key topics and provide insightful information. The first Webinar on 2nd December will feature a special overview of the industry from the National Agency for Oil, Gas and Biofuels (ANPG) with the second Webinar (8th December) exploring the challenges and opportunities for the sector post COVID-19.
Other topics featured will include a review of the local content law and regulatory framework and an update from the services sector as we look ahead to 2021.
