Energy poverty: Bannergas partners Lagos state government towards reduction

Nigeria is a gas province, with more potentials for gas production over crude oil production.
However, majority of Nigerians still use firewood and kerosene to the health and environmental detriment of our families, where in some regions of Nigeria acid rain from gas flaring has remained unchecked, and in other regions, where desert is fast encroaching due to felling of tree for domestic fire wood cooking, said the Managing Director, Banner Energy Limited, Mr. Nuhu Yakubu recently in Lagos, while speaking at the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) organized by the firm and the Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI), in collaboration with the Lagos state government.
Mr. Yakubu stated that the LPG clean cook stove/cylinders free hand out to Lagos Residents is a partnership project that is sponsored by the Lagos State Government in collaboration with the LPG Sub-Group of the Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI).
‘’The aim is to educate the general public on the importance of switching from the use of dirty fuels like kerosene  and firewood to cleaner fuels like Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG), for cooking, heating, autogas, power generation, and other industrial purposes, with a view to deepening the use of gas in Nigeria, towards reduction of energy poverty”.
The Lagos State Government, through its Ministry of Energy & Mineral Resources, is taking the lead in the campaign for clean energy switch in Nigeria, starting with Lagos, and the LCCI along with its member organizations like BannerGas are excited to be part of this laudable socially and economically impactful program.
The use of LPG instead of firewood and kerosene will enable our women spend less time in the kitchens, and free up more time for them to engage in other more economically gainful activities to support their husbands, and improve their families living standards, besides many other benefits.
The use of LPG will see to massive reduction in reported cases of respiratory health problems in Lagos Hospitals, which enables the State Government to re-prioritize its health budget.
