Nigeria launched its Energy Transition Plan in August 2022 to demonstrate its commitment to achieving carbon neutrality, ending energy poverty, and driving economic growth. The plan focuses on power, cooking, oil and gas, transport, and industry. Vice President Yemi Osinbajo joined other players in the energy sector to launch the plan, which showcased Nigeria’s pathway to achieving net-zero emissions by 2060.
Meanwhile, a report has stated that an increased demand for solar power will drive a more than two-fold jump in the number of Nigerians working in the renewable energy sector by 2023.
The report by Power for All, a global coalition advocating renewable energy solutions to end blackout revealed that the sector could “create more than 76,000 new jobs by 2023” in solar services — including home solutions, commercial and industrial appliances — from 32,000 workers in 2019.
Despite the growth in the number of jobs, Distributed Renewable Energy (DRE) companies surveyed as part of this study indicated that they struggle to fill critical roles due to a lack of qualified applicants. This shortage of skilled workers is expected to get worse as the sector grows and the world transitions away from fossil fuels.
In this regard, Shebrah will participate in the high-level discussion by making a strong case for immediate action to help address this growing skills gap. With its claim of generating 6.5GWhr, GVE is reputed to be the largest supplier of minigrids in Nigeria.

Energy Leaders Dialogue was established by The Energy Intelligence in 2020 to host senior decision makers in the African energy space to network and discuss the challenges to a sustainable energy future and proffer possible solutions.
