In its push for incremental power, the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has energized a 330kVtransmission line constructed by KEC six years ago, which could not be energized and 150MVA power transformer and associated 75MVR reactors.
In a statement sent to PetrolGas Report earlier today, Ndidi Mbah, General Manager, Public Affairs said the TCN’s task team is now concentrating on completing the 60MVA which is expected to be completed in the next two weeks to enable Damaturu and its environs to get supply from the Substation.
She said, “The Damaturu 330kV Substation project contract was awarded in 2006 but like Wudil 132kV Substation which was taken over from the contractor and completed about a month ago, TCN engineers took over the contract about three months back, completed and energized it on Wednesday, 13th September, 2018.
“The Gombe-Damaturu330kV Single Circuittransmission line was completed in 2013 but was neither terminated nor energized.
“TCN management constituted a committee headed by the General Manager Kaduna Region, Engr Alimto ensure quick and successful completion of the Gombe-Damaturu-Maiduguri 330kV Single Circuit line and Damaturu 330kV Substations at Damaturu and Maiduguri respectively.
“ It took the leadership and patriotism of Engr Idris Alim the current General Manager Transmission, Kaduna Region and members of his task team for this to be achieved,” she said.
According to her, two towers on the Damaturu-Maiduguri 330kV transmission lines that were vandalized in 2015 are currently being stringed by a contractor.
“It is expected that the work will be completed in the next one week and Maiduguri 330/132/33kV Substation which has been completed will be energized.
“This will significantly improve the power supply of Maiduguri and environs. It will also improve the flexibility of supply to Biu and Dambua all in Borno State.
“TCN noted that several projects are currently on-going in its network nationwide and re-affirmed its resolve to continue to pursue and implement the incremental power policy of the Federal Government by consistently investing in capacity expansion initiatives, through its Transmission Rehabilitation and Expansion Program.
